PharmD Student Lounge

PharmD Handbook Avatar

Location & Access

The PharmD Student Lounge is located in Room 239 in South Campus Center. A Health Sciences Access Card will allow access to the building after hours. You must carry your UW Husky Card to remain in the building after hours. At all times, you will need a School of Pharmacy password to open the door to the lounge. Contact your Student Representatives if you forget the access code.

The Student Lounge is intended to serve as a resource, study, meeting and relaxation center for PharmD students. Amenities of the lounge include a computer, printer, fridge, microwave, sink, TV, phone, glass whiteboards, locking storage cupboards for organizations, conference tables and chairs, and several other kitchen items. Students are responsible for keeping the lounge clean (see Cleaning Policy below).

Printer Usage

The printer in the lounge is intended as a backup to other printing resources, including those on campus and at home. Student Services provides one toner cartridge per month for the Student Lounge printer. Students must supply their own paper. The printers have fixed private UW IP addresses. Please do not change printer settings or reset them to factory default. Doing so will break any current connections and may compromise security. Documents saved to the computer hard drives may be periodically deleted, so we recommend the use of a flash drive or cloud-based storage.

Cleaning Policy

Student organizations that have assigned storage lockers in the Student Lounge will be responsible for monitoring and cleaning the PharmD Student Lounge and 4th-floor microwave. Each organization will be responsible for one month of cleaning, and the organizations will decide which students are in charge of the cleaning.

Deep cleaning should take place the first week of each month EXCEPT for September (done 1 – 5 days before orientation) and June (done 1 – 5 days before summer break). Spot cleaning will take place throughout the rest of the month.

Cleaning supplies are located in the Student Lounge. If supplies are running low, the organization in charge for the month should notify a Student Representative, who will notify Student Services.

Once deep cleaning has been completed, the organization will update the online tracking sheet (tinyurl.com/pharmdlounge) so that Student Reps are informed. If the assigned organization members do not complete their cleaning duties at the end of their month, they will be responsible for cleaning the next month as well. Ongoing cleaning issues will be brought to the attention of Student Services.

Contact

This policy was developed by the Student Representatives on the Dean’s Advisory Council of Students. Email pharmdreps@uw.edu if you have questions.

Student Representative Responsibilities

The designated Student Rep (see table below) is responsible for emailing the organization in charge of cleaning for the month; this email should be sent at the end of the previous month. For example, if your month is October, email the RSO the last week of September. Unless otherwise outlined, cleaning should be completed by the end of the first week of the month. For the month of September, since cleaning must be finished before the quarter officially starts, the initial email should be sent in the beginning of September to give the RSO adequate time to organize cleaning.
For the month of June, the initial email should be sent in the middle of May to allow the RSO adequate time to organize cleaning before finals begin. If the RSO has not notified the Student Rep of cleaning completion by the end of the first week of their designated month, a second reminder email should be sent to the RSO. If the RSO still has not completed cleaning by the end of the second week, a third reminder email should be sent including Student Services into the conversation. Failure to complete designated cleaning will result in additional cleaning and possible lounge closure.

Communication will be key in ensuring that this policy runs smoothly, especially during the first year of implementing. Collaborate with the other Student Reps and Student Services if problems arise.

Before the end of the current academic year, the schedule for next academic year should be determined by the Student Reps. One person will need to be responsible for two months and everyone else responsible for one. The schedule should rotate between PY1s, PY2s, and PY3s. PY4 will not be held responsible due to rotations. Since the PY1 Student Reps are not selected until the following school year, their names will need to be filled in once elected.
