Background
There are currently more than 54 million adults in the US older than 65, and the number is expected to increase to 80 million by 2040 and nearly 95 million by 2060. Future pharmacists will have ample opportunities to provide care to older adults and will play an important role in optimizing medication management and improving overall health outcomes for older adults.
The Plein Certificate in Geriatric Pharmacy is an opportunity designed for PharmD students to complete during their program and aims to prepare student pharmacists to become specialists in geriatrics to meet the needs of older adults in all practice settings. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in the general principles of selecting and optimizing drug therapy for older adults with several comorbidities.
This specialized training will assist pharmacists practicing in any pharmacy environment, including community, home health care, hospital and long-term care settings.
