Congratulations to Plein Center for Aging Director Shelly Gray for being named a 2025 Fulbright Scholar!
One of four UW researchers selected for this prestigious award, Dr. Gray will be hosted by the China Medical University (Taiwan) in the College of Pharmacy, in September. She will pursue a project entitled, “Adverse drug effects of medication use on sedentary time and physical activity in older adults.”

Every year, the Plein Center for Aging hosts a research symposium that highlights important research related to optimizing medication use in older adults. This past spring, we featured keynote speaker Dr. Elizabeth Phelan, MD, MS to discuss her research on The Next Step in Falls Prevention: Insights, Innovations and Evidence-Based Strategies for Older Adults.

2024-2027 Strategic Plan
The Plein Center for Aging Strategic Plan will guide our actions, decisions and priorities in the coming three years. There are three sections: 1) Vision statement; 2) Mission statement; and 3) the Goals & Strategies of our Strategic Plan. Our strategic plan communicates who we are as an organization and our commitment to optimizing older adults’ medication outcomes and promoting healthy aging.

Research
Plein Center faculty, students, and postdocs conduct translational science related to the health and wellbeing of older adults and their care partners.

We offer three training opportunities to gain clinical and research skills.

We promote safe and effective medication use in older adults through outreach and advocacy efforts.
