Shelly Gray Named 2025 Fulbright Scholar

Congratulations to Plein Center for Aging Director Shelly Gray for being named a 2025 Fulbright Scholar. Fulbright Scholars are college and university faculty, administrators and researchers, as well as artists and professionals, who build their skills and connections, gain valuable international insights and return home to share their experiences with their students and colleagues.

One of four UW researchers selected for this prestigious award, Shelly will be hosted by the China Medical University (Taiwan) in the College of Pharmacy, in September. She will pursue a project entitled, “Adverse drug effects of medication use on sedentary time and physical activity in older adults.”

“I’m deeply honored to have been named a Fulbright Scholar and am excited to spend six months in Taiwan researching medication safety among older adults,” said Shelly. “During my time there, I look forward to collaborating with Taiwanese researchers and clinicians amid Taiwan’s highly regarded healthcare landscape—famed for its universal health coverage, advanced facilities, and infrastructure for epidemiology research. I hope to enhance my research skills, develop cross cultural perspectives on medication safety, and forge lifelong international partnerships that will inform my future work in healthy aging.”

The Fulbright Scholar Program for academics and professionals awards more than 1,700 fellowships each year, enabling 800 U.S. scholars to go abroad and 900 visiting scholars to come to the United States. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. The UW is one of 17 institutions nationwide recognized in 2022-2023 as a “Top Producer” of both Fulbright scholars and students.
