Are you curious about a career that combines science, healthcare, innovation, and patient care? The UW Future Pharmacist Program is a pathway for University of Washington undergraduate students who want to learn more about pharmacy and explore whether becoming a pharmacist is right for them.

Open to students from all majors, the program provides early exposure to pharmacy careers through advising, mentorship, professional development, and engagement with the UW School of Pharmacy community. Whether you’re just beginning to explore healthcare professions or already considering a PharmD degree, the UW Future Pharmacist Program can help you navigate your next steps.

What Is the UW Future Pharmacist Program?

The UW Future Pharmacist Program is designed to help undergraduate students:

  • Explore pharmacy career pathways
  • Learn about the PharmD application process
  • Connect with pharmacists, faculty, and current PharmD students
  • Receive guidance on prerequisite coursework and academic planning
  • Prepare to become competitive PharmD applicants

Students participate in educational programming throughout the academic year while receiving support from UW School of Pharmacy advisers and community members. The program is open to University of Washington undergraduate students who are interested in exploring pharmacy. Students from all academic majors are welcome.

Explore Pharmacy Careers – Learn about the many roles pharmacists play across healthcare and research through presentations, panels, and discussions with practicing professionals.

Receive Pre-Pharmacy Advising – Meet with advisers to discuss prerequisite coursework, academic planning, experiential opportunities, and preparation for PharmD admissions.

Connect with Current Students – Hear firsthand from UW PharmD students about their experiences in pharmacy school, internships, leadership activities, and career goals.

Build Your Professional Network – Develop relationships with faculty, pharmacists, alumni, and peers who share an interest in healthcare and pharmacy.

Strengthen Your PharmD Preparation – Gain a better understanding of admission requirements and identify experiences that help you become a successful applicant.

2026 – 2027 Program Activities

Autumn Quarter: Future Pharmacist Information Session – Learn about pharmacy careers, the PharmD degree, and opportunities available through the UW School of Pharmacy.

Winter Quarter: Pharmacist Career Panel – Meet pharmacists representing a variety of practice settings and learn about career pathways, professional growth, and emerging opportunities within the profession.

Spring Quarter: PharmD Student Mentor Event – Connect with current UW PharmD students and learn about pharmacy school, experiential learning, leadership opportunities, and student life.

Throughout the Year: Individual Advising and Academic Planning – Receive guidance on coursework, prerequisites, experiential opportunities, and long-term professional goals.
