Undergraduate Profile

Major: Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology

Projected graduation: Spring 2026

Tell us why you chose the University of Washington (UW).

As a Seattle native, UW was an easy choice thanks to its proximity and the benefit of in-state tuition. Its size and reputation also promised ample opportunities, especially for someone who, like myself, came into college not knowing exactly what they wanted to study. A great marching band program to be a part of was the cherry on top.

What led you to studying your major?

I love molecular biology, plain and simple. The complex structures and processes that allow life to occur are infinitely fascinating to me. I’m especially interested in how understanding these systems can be translated into treatments and cures for diseases.

What experiences at the UW have been the most influential to you?

Getting involved in undergraduate research (with Melissa Barker-Haliski) has been an amazing experience. The path there was arguably even more impactful to me, as it led me to really push myself, uncover where my academic interests lie, and learn how to bounce back from repeated setbacks.

What do you want to do following graduation?

Post graduation, my goal is to get a research position. I hope to pursue a PhD in Pharmaceutics and Drug Discovery in the near future, both to advance my career and just for the opportunity to get really immersed in the subject matter.

What are your future aspirations or goals?

I want to be part of fulfilling research. For me, that means bettering human lives by uncovering ways to improve healthcare outcomes and quality-of-life.

Tell us about your in-school activities?

I play clarinet in the Husky Marching Band and currently spend a significant amount of my time pursuing undergraduate research.

What is one piece of advice that you have for potential new students or one thing you wish you knew before beginning your studies?

Failure and rejection will happen, and that’s okay. I think that bears reiterating: failure and rejection will happen, and those things are okay. Take some time to reflect, then get up and try the next thing. Chances are you’ll end up somewhere great that you’d never even thought about.

What is a fun or interesting fact about you?

I once made a friend of mine laugh so hard that I gave him an inguinal hernia. I also like to write!
