Tell us why you chose UW.

I chose the University of Washington for graduate school because of its proximity to my family. I believe that a strong support system is imperative to overall success and having my family close would mean I could either live at home or visit them often if not. Another reason for choosing the UW is that their curriculum is constantly being modified to fit the expectations of the real-world following graduation and student input is considered. I think this is part of the reason why the UW is ranked as one of the top PharmD programs nationwide.

What led you to study pharmacy?

In high school, I was given the opportunity to shadow in an outpatient clinic setting and instantly felt comfortable and eager to learn more about the profession and team dynamics. I changed my undergraduate studies major to Biology soon after being accepted into university so that I could complete prerequisites for pharmacy school.

What experiences at the UW have been the most influential to you?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time serving as a student ambassador, peer mentor, and various registered student organization (RSO_ leadership roles. Each of these roles came with numerous opportunities to engage with the community, develop relationships with professors, and further my knowledge.

Academics-wise, there were times when I felt that my exam grades did not reflect my knowledge of the material. This frustration led me to reach out to professors to get additional help and to the student success team to figure out next steps. I am happy to report that I am doing much better now.

What is one piece of advice that you have for potential new students or one thing you wish you knew before beginning your studies?

One thing I wish I was told verbatim upon starting pharmacy school: It really is not that serious!

I remember beating myself up about barely passing one of the provider readiness assessments held at the end of each quarter. I passed the remediation and all was well; but I remember being in a rut for a few days once being told I did not pass the 85% grade threshold needed to pass. To be honest, I would not have it any other way because the mistakes I made during that examination are things that I have not missed since then.

What is a fun or interesting fact about you?

I have traveled to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Germany, Norway, Iceland, London, Italy, Rome, the Netherlands, but I have only been to 4 states in the U.S.

I enjoy learning new languages and speak 3 fluently and am looking to learn more!
