Nina Isoherranen Named Editor-in-Chief of Drug Metabolism and Disposition

Nina Isoherranen heatshotThe University of Washington School of Pharmacy’s Nina Isoherranen, PhD, has been named the next editor-in-chief of Drug Metabolism and Disposition, a leading peer-reviewed journal in the field of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics. Her appointment marks a significant professional distinction and reflects the School’s longstanding leadership in the field.

Published by the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) since 1973, Drug Metabolism and Disposition is a leading journal for publishing research examining in vitro, in vivo and in silico systems with significant and original information on metabolism and disposition of endogenous and exogenous compounds, including pharmacologic agents and environmental chemicals. The journal reaches an international community of researchers working across academia, regulatory authorities and the pharmaceutical industry.

Isoherranen, professor and Milo Gibaldi Endowed Chair of the UW School of Pharmacy Department of Pharmaceutics, was selected to succeed current editor-in-chief Xinxin Ding, PhD, beginning January 1, 2027. In this role, she will help shape the journal’s scientific direction and guide the publication of research advancing the field.

Her selection represents an important recognition by her scientific peers and brings additional national and international recognition to the UW School of Pharmacy. It also underscores the School’s contributions to a discipline central to drug discovery, development and patient safety.

Isoherranen’s appointment builds on a longstanding tradition of editorial service by UW School of Pharmacy faculty. Ken Thummel previously served as an associate editor of Drug Metabolism and Disposition. Joanne Wang currently serves as an associate editor of Pharmacological Reviews and Molecular Pharmacology, while both Wang and Samuel Arnold serve on the editorial advisory board of Drug Metabolism and Disposition.

A member of the UW School of Pharmacy faculty since 2004, Isoherranen was named a Fellow of ASPET in 2025, recognizing her contributions to pharmacological research, mentorship and service to the scientific community.
