Dr. Melissa Barker-Haliski and her lab have been awarded a grant from the American Epilepsy Society, strengthening a new collaboration with Dr. Jeff Carroll, associate professor in neurology at the UW School of Medicine. A leader in epilepsy research, Barker-Haliski’s work focuses on developing novel therapies for drug-resistant epilepsy and age-related neurological disorders. Her lab addresses the growing prevalence of epilepsy in older adults, particularly in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. This funding supports ongoing “n of 1” trials for DRPLA, furthering personalized medicine for rare seizure disorders.
