Student Outreach and Research

The UW pharmacy students participate in many community outreach activities and research projects. Here are some recent highlights.

ASCP Student Chapter

The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) is the only international professional society devoted to optimal medication management and improved health outcomes for all older persons. ASCP represents over 9,000 pharmacy professionals, including students, serving the unique medication needs of the senior population.

The UW Student Chapter of ASCP is a large and active student organization! They sponsor several outreach events for older adults every year– all very popular among students and very much appreciated by participants. Examples include:

  • Health fairs
  • Brown bag medication reviews
  • Interprofessional fall prevention educational programs
  • Osteoporosis screenings

Students also work with faculty mentors to develop and conduct research projects, many of which are presented at local and national meetings.

Other highlights of the Student Chapter include hosting speaking engagements for nationally-recognized pharmacists who specialize in geriatrics.

See their most recent newsletter for detailed information about their important work.
