Experiential Programs

The School of Pharmacy proudly offers one of the most robust, patient care-centered Experiential Education programs in the country through it’s Pharmacist Provider Series.

The Experiential Education team coordinates professional learning experiences for students, advises the Dean on issues relating to professional practice, facilitates Interprofessional Education events, and provides service to more than 800 clinical and affiliate faculty members and preceptors.

The Experiential Education team coordinates Introductory and Intermediate Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy

Practice Experiences (APPE) and career-related student advising. The team also places students in health systems, hospitals, community pharmacies, and a variety of other practice sites in the Puget Sound region, state of Washington, and internationally to foster provider readiness.

Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (PY3-4)

Beginning in the third year of the program, students will spend 48 weeks doing Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) in a variety of settings throughout the state, country, and global. Our practice experiences are only made possible through the hard work and dedication of our preceptors who direct these unique experiences to help our students become exceptional providers.

This program is designed to ensure competency of all pharmacy students in basic skills needed to work in a variety of pharmacy environments.

Students complete eight 6-week, full-time blocks on-site. These experiences start in spring quarter of PY3 and run through the end of spring quarter of PY4.

For questions related to the advanced experiences, please contact Matthew Elamparo at appemgr@uw.edu.
