Research

Understand the cellular changes bought about by drugs of abuse, mainly Marijuana, in the placental cells and how these changes can influence placental drug transport and in a bigger picture regulate, pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes.

Interests:

I am interested in understand the cellular and molecular changes associated with Marijuana use/abuse during pregnancy. Using invitro endometrium and placenta cell models, I am currently evaluating how cannabinoids regulate,1) early events necessary for a successful pregnancy, such as endometrial and placental cell differentiation and maturation; 2) placental drug metabolism and transport. In a bigger picture, I anticipate this research to provide preliminary evidence of how pregnancy associated Marijuana use/abuse can influence pregnancy outcomes.
