Thesis/Research Topic: My research project focuses on metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG), a norepinephrine analogue used as a theranostic agent for neuroblastoma by utilizing different iodine isotopes (123I-MIBG: diagnosis, 131I-MIBG: therapy). The norepinephrine transporter (NET) mediates MIBG uptake into the neuroblastoma tumors, although other transporters are suspected to mediate MIBG uptake into peripheral tissues. Thus, the purpose of this project is to understand the role of transporters in MIBG distribution and toxicity in neuroblastoma.
