Aims of the QFC Residency Site

The primary goal of the UWSOP QFC PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is to foster the formal postgraduate education and training for pharmacists to develop leadership and innovation in community pharmacy practice.

The specific objectives of the 12- month residency program are:

  • To advance the resident‚Äôs knowledge in drug therapy, medication therapy management, immunizations, health screenings, and wellness education.
  • To develop leadership and management skills to create, implement, and evaluate innovative pharmacy services.

About Quality Food Centers (QFC) Pharmacy

  • QFC Pharmacy is a division of the Kroger Family of Pharmacies. With 32 pharmacies located throughout the states of Washington and Oregon, the QFC Pharmacy culture is governed by the core values of honesty, integrity, respect, diversity, safety and inclusion.
  • The main training locations are the QFC Corporate Office and QFC stores throughout the Seattle metropolitan area.

Potential Educational and Training Opportunities Available to the Resident

  • The residency program preceptors include the QFC Pharmacy Merchandiser, Sales Manager, Clinical Sales Manager, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy managers, the University of Washington Residency Program Director and other University of Washington faculty preceptors.
  • Patient care activities include, but are not limited to: medication therapy management, immunizations, travel medicine, long-term care drug regimen review, disease management in hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia¬†and weight loss and nutrition counseling, and consultant pharmacy work at local assisted living facilities. In addition to clinical patient care activities, various practice management, leadership and teaching experiences are available. The resident will participate in pharmacy business and clinical management meetings, UW School of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate program, local and national pharmacy conferences, and the resident has the option to serve as an affiliate clinical instructor for didactic and experiential courses at the UW School of Pharmacy.
