The Comparative Health Outcomes, Policy, and Economics (CHOICE) Institute

Recruiting for 2020 PhD Cohort

Colleagues,

The CHOICE (Comparative Health Outcomes, Policy, and Economics) Institute at the University of Washington (uwchoice.org) is actively recruiting qualified applicants for admission to the PhD Program in Pharmaceutical Outcomes Research and Policy for the Fall 2020 cohort. Further details about the program can be found at: uwchoice.org/graduate-education-training-programs/phd-program/

Our PhD program prepares students to become independent scientists and leaders in health economics, outcomes research and policy evaluation, with special emphasis on the pharmaceutical sector. Upon graduation, about one-third of our CHOICE alumni find placement in academia, another one-third are in industry and the remaining one-third are in governmental or non-profit organizations. Students complete courses in the fields of biostatistics, epidemiology, health economics, decision sciences, clinical trial design and analysis, and health policy in order to gain an in-depth understanding of the complex and interdisciplinary environment of health economics and outcomes research. Didactic preparation is augmented with substantive involvement in the research and teaching programs of our world-renowned graduate faculty with expertise in health economics, outcomes research, health policy evaluation, genomics, pharmacoepidemiology, translational research, and therapeutics.

In addition, the collaborative opportunities at the UW and greater Seattle area are unparalleled and include relationships with the Departments of Health Services and Global Health, Surgical Outcomes Research Center, Program for Health Economics and Outcomes Methodology, and the Institute of Translational Health Sciences at the UW, and also Seattle Children’s Hospital, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, the Health Services Research & Development Center of Excellence at the VA, the Gates Foundation, PATH, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, all located within ten miles of each other in beautiful Seattle.

We offer two years of guaranteed stipend support to all admitted students. There are also many funded opportunities to participate in research supported by the National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and industry, that support students beyond their second year in the program.

Applications are submitted through the UW Graduate School. The application deadline is December 31, 2019. If you know of talented students who are interested in doctoral training in pharmaceutical outcomes research and policy, we would greatly appreciate if you could let them know about our program at University of Washington.
