Experiential Learning Course Information

The Office of Professional Pharmacy Education offers several different experiential learning courses. Select from the following:
  • PharmP 511-514 Introductory Community Pharmacy Experience (required course for first/second-year students)
  • PharmP 531-533 Introductory Institutional Pharmacy Experience (required course for second/third-year students)
  • PharmP 541 Introductory Clinical Practice Experience (required course for third-year students)
  • PharmP 571/572/573/574/575/576/577/578 Advanced Practicums (required courses for fourth-year students) (formerly PHARM 575/576/577/578)
PharmP 511–514: Introductory Community Pharmacy Experience 

Course Description. This 5-credit required course sequence is designed to ensure competency of all pharmacy students in basic skills needed to work in an ambulatory pharmacy environment.

PharmP 531-533: Introductory Institutional Pharmacy Experience

Course Description. This 4-credit required course is designed to ensure competency of all pharmacy students in basic skills needed to work in an inpatient pharmacy environment.

Pharm 541: Introductory Clinical Practice Experience

Course Description. This one-credit required course is designed to introduce the student to the process of advanced patient care in a real care environment. Students will visit a patient at an assigned care site. Other activities include orientation for fourth-professional year advanced practice experiences, case and short seminar presentation, and first aid and CPR certification.

Third-year students will enroll for this class in spring quarter of their third professional year.

The Course Syllabus. There are two versions. Please select the appropriate one.
Evaluation. Each student will need to submit a completed presentation evaluation form which has been signed by the preceptor and a SOAP note to the Experiential Education Director.

PharmP 571, 572, 573, 574, 575, 576, 577, 578: Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences

Course Description. Each of these courses are six credits, except for PharmP 578, which is variable-credit.

  • PharmP 576: APPE in Non-Patient Care Setting
  • PharmP 577: APPE in Senior Care
  • PharmP 578: APPE Elective
