School Facts and Highlights 2011-2012

Founded in 1894, the University of Washington School of Pharmacy is the nation’s No. 5 pharmacy school, according to U.S. News & World Report. Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, the School’s mission statement is:

  • We educate professional pharmacists who work in partnership with other health professionals to provide accessible, compassionate, and integrative pharmaceutical care with the goal of enhancing the quality of life through improved patient care.
  • We develop scientific leaders to carry out basic and translational biomedical research, to think critically and make informed decisions at preclinical, clinical and post-approval stages of drug discovery and development, and to integrate knowledge in the pharmaceutical sciences, health policy and economics.
  • We serve the community as committed and compassionate leaders in the use of our knowledge and discoveries to help develop and disseminate solutions to complex healthcare problems and promote the health and well-being of regional, national and global populations.

EXCELLENCE

  • Ranked No. 9 among pharmacy schools in National Institutes of Health grant funding; and faculty secured more than $15 million in overall research funding in fiscal year 2011
  • Faculty and emeritus faculty hold fellowships in associations that include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Recent School and faculty honors include an American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Transformative Community Service Award, an AACP Volwiler Pharmaceutical Research Achievement Award, and an American Society of Consultant Pharmacists Practice Innovation Award. Recent student honors include an election as president of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists, an Albert Schweitzer Lambarene Public Health Fellowship, and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
