Facts and Highlights
From top rankings in National Institutes of Health research funding to multiple academic and scientific awards for faculty and students, the School of Pharmacy’s distinctions are wide-ranging. Learn more about those honors as well as about the School’s departments, programs and demographics.
The School of Pharmacy 2010 Strategic Plan addresses the instructional, research and service missions of the School. Because these missions are highly interrelated, there is a unifying focus of the strategic plan: to promote “the safe, rational and cost-effective use of pharmaceuticals in patients and populations.” Read the Strategic Plan.
History of the School
The 51st pharmacy school in the United States was established in 1894 in a muddy Washington frontier town called Seattle. The University of Washington College of Pharmacy was created through the efforts of the Washington State Pharmaceutical Association, which had lobbied for legislation regulating its profession in the new state. On August 20th of that year, the college opened its doors to 21 students. Read our full history.
