Welcome to the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. As you peruse the pages within our website, I hope you will enjoy learning about all the ways in which our faculty, staff, students and alumni are forwarding our commitment to excellence. Throughout these pages, you can see the myriad ways in which our School is devoted to:

We are the No. 10 pharmacy school in the nation. We also belong to a world-renowned health sciences center, which includes top-ranked Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health and Social Work. Throughout these schools, our students, scientists, researchers and educators are working to advance the understanding of human health and improve the well-being of people everywhere.

Further, we are part of one of the preeminent research institutions in the world. The University of Washington is dedicated to educating a diverse student body to become responsible global citizens and future leaders, as well as discovering timely solutions to the world’s most complex problems.

Strategic Plan
The School of Pharmacy 2010 Strategic Plan addresses the instructional, research and service missions of the School. Because these missions are highly interrelated, there is a unifying focus of the strategic plan: to promote “the safe, rational and cost-effective use of pharmaceuticals in patients and populations.” Read the Strategic Plan.

History of the School
The 51st pharmacy school in the United States was established in 1894 in a muddy Washington frontier town called Seattle. The University of Washington College of Pharmacy was created through the efforts of the Washington State Pharmaceutical Association, which had lobbied for legislation regulating its profession in the new state. On August 20th of that year, the college opened its doors to 21 students. Read our full history.
