Dr. Shen is a professor in the Departments of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacy, and a past chair of the Department of Pharmacy. He is a member in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Shen held faculty appointments at the University of Kansas Medical Center and State University of New York at Buffalo prior to joining the faculty at the University of Washington in 1984. Shen is a fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
He is a past president of AAPS. Shen is also a member of several other scientific societies, including the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He is on the editorial board of the "Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences," "AAPS Journal" and "Pharmaceutical Research." He has served as adviser or consultant to governmental agencies (e.g. National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Administration) and the pharmaceutical industry.
