Class of 2012

Final Campaign Outcome
In June 2012, the Class of 2012 presented a $2,400 check to Dean Baillie at graduation. This was a record amount for a gift, and the class had a record 76% participation rate. The check was split evenly between the Sid Nelson Memorial Fund and the Dennis Lam Memorial Fund.

A Message to Our Classmates in the Class of 2012:
(written in January 2012)

Happy New Year! Happy Graduation Year! And happy 2012 P-4 Giving Campaign!

The year we graduate is finally here! This also means it's time to officially kick off the 2012 P-4 Giving Campaign (aka our class gift).

As you may know, we have decided to donate to both the Dennis Lam Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Sid Nelson Memorial Fund. Our goal is to raise $2,012 as our total class donation.

Dennis Lam was an inspiring, well-loved pharmacy student who lost his battle to cancer before he could graduate with the Class of 2008. Members of his class recently came together to create an endowed scholarship in his memory. We are touched by his story and the efforts of his classmates, and we are honored to help raise money for this special fund. And Dr. Sid Nelson, as you all know, impacted and inspired many lives. After he passed away in December, we even received an offer from an anonymous fourth-year pharmacy student donor who would like to honor his memory. This person is willing to match, dollar for dollar, donations made on behalf of Sid Nelson up to $600. (Thank you so much!) You can read more about both of the funds we are raising money for in the boxes to the right.

We are pleased to report that we already have 56 percent class participation! Keep in mind that we are looking for 100 percent class participation, regardless of the size of the donation. So, let's make our gift something that truly represents each one of us in our class. Our goal is for each of you to contribute, even if you can only donate a small amount! In fact, the suggested donation is $20. Thank you to those who have already donated! It is because of YOU that we are well on our way to achieve 100 percent participation and our goal of $2,012.

Now, we know you are probably wondering, "How do I participate and contribute to the funds honoring these two wonderful men?" Well, fear not; more information is below. In the meantime, we will keep you updated with our goals and progress! Any other questions? Just email Julie Hill, SOP Assistant Director of Advancement. And remember, we're almost there!

Cheers,
Joanna Preker, Caleb Tang and Tracy Yep

Sidney D. Nelson Memorial Fund

Sid in labcoat thumbnailIn December 2011, the UW School of Pharmacy lost a beloved member of its community when Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Dean Emeritus Sidney 'Sid' Nelson passed away suddenly. In honor of Sid's life and his countless contributions to this School, we have created the Sid Nelson Memorial Fund. This fund will support students and programs within the School of Pharmacy in memory of Sid Nelson. You can make a gift online to the fund, or contact Assistant Dean of Advancement Claire Forster for information about other ways to honor Sid.
